Journalism + Copywriting
Ashley Nash Baltazar launched her journalism career via internships with local newspapers in Los Angeles. She would go on to obtain her masters in journalism from the USC Annenberg School where she majored in print + photojournalism. During the summer of her first year, she interned at Cape Community Newspapers in South Africa where she covered breaking news, art and culture. She returned home, graduated and found herself wanting to travel more, leading her to take on a role in the Bay Area. There, she worked in content analysis at Twitter + Facebook before entering content coordination at a senior healthcare agency. She also continued to freelance as a writer and photographer covering social justice.
Ashley would return home to Los Angeles to take on a copywriting role which only strengthened her desire to produce stories both written and visual. A “storyhunting” role with Vox Media would afford her the opportunity to not only write, but produce and direct video and marketing campaigns for B2C brands. Now in her dream role, she decided to bring to life another dream: living in New York City.
Her 16-year span of work has appeared in EBONY, Medium, Blavity, AFROPUNK, CRWN Magazine, Madame Noire, Carefree, Teen Vogue, Italian Vogue, HuffPost, Access Hollywood and Wear Your Voice Magazine. She now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter. When she isn’t spending time with family, Ashley is curating her Pinterest, achieving daily goals on Duolingo, thrifting and checking out new coffee shop/eateries around the city.
